As you already know, my Peanut is a handful (I mean that in the most wonderful way, too) and is now 2! So, here's the math: Peanut + infinite energy + age= a sometimes tired MOMMY. My friend, Kelly, has two wonderful children, K and J. J and Walnut play together all of the time and J has been on many different endeavors or excursions with us. K, Kelly's daughter, is nine and a most lovely girl. On the BFF board, I saw a post from one of my friends about having a mother's helper for the summer. DING, DING, ding....ding! Ah-ha! This could be a win-win (Covey--ha) situation for everyone involved.
Broaching the subject of K's role during the summer was one that I was a bit apprehensive about as I didn't know if my intentions would be well received. I figured that instead of K and J going to daycare one day a week during the summer that they could spend that time with us. What I loved about the looming arrangement is that no money needed to be exchanged. Kelly was very receptive and we decided that Mondays would be our days together.
And so, K is my mother's helper. She helped me around the house on Monday by moving and watering container gardens, hosing off the front porch, helping to make lunch, guiding J and Walnut as they prepared for the water adventures in the yard and playing with Peanut. What I also love about the situation is that I am getting to know K a little better as I already know J pretty well. It has been a wonderful experience and I am looking forward to Mondays for the rest of the summer!
